The European Football Federation (UEFA) has officially announced the list of referees to officiate the 2025 European Super Cup match between PSG and Tottenham on August 13.

This prestigious match will take place at 2:00 AM on August 13, 2025 (Vietnam time) at the Stadio Stadium in Udine, Italy. This year’s European Super Cup match is a competition between the two best representatives in Europe: PSG – UEFA Champions League 2024/25 and Tottenham – the team that crowned the UEFA Europa League last season.

As announced by the European Football Federation, 37-year-old Joao Pinheiro is the referee who will be handling the European Super Cup. He has been a FIFA referee since 2016 and has gained extensive experience in continental competitions. To date, Pinheiro has overseen a total of 68 matches in the UEFA tournament system, including club and national team matches.

During the 2024/25 season, he took charge of 5 matches in the knockout round of the European Cup, including the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final between Chelsea and Djurgarden. He also officiated in the UEFA Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan, where the French representatives won a resounding 5-0.

Supporting Mr. Pinheiro in the upcoming match are two compatriots, Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia. The fourth official will be Elchin Masiyev of Azerbaijan. The VAR system will be managed by Tiago Martins (Portugal), along with assistant Filio Melo (Portugal) and Pol van Boekel (Netherlands).

Joao Pinheiro is a strict referee

This arbitrator is quite strictly assessed when distributing a lot of yellow cards in the last season. Specifically, Mr. Pinheiro is withdrawing from 3.6 to 4.9 cards/match in European tournaments and the 2024/25 domestic tournament.

However, Mr. Pinheiro has a lot of experience working in Europe, so the upcoming 2025 European Super Cup match between PSG and Tottenham promises to be a superior and fair competition.
